Surprise Family Visit
Angie
Reed, artist, performer, musician and all-round raconteuse,
took a break from her hectic touring schedule to take part in an
event at Byam Shaw School of Art on Thursday, 9 April 2006.
Jemima & Dolly Brown are currently artists in residence at Byam
Shaw, part of Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design.
Family Viewing arranged for Angie Reed to visit the college to give
students an insight into her unique practice. This came about as
a collaboration with the staff and students who organise the regular
programme of talks and discussions by visiting artists and the popular
Thursday salons that provide a platform for performances and screenings.
Those present were treated not only to insights, but also a demonstration
of Angie's work in motion in the form of a performance of song and
video from her current work, "XYZ Frequency". In London
to perform the new show at The
Spitz and barely off the plane from touring Scandanavia with
Chicks on Speed, her stamina was inspiring.
Although primarily known as a musician, Angie Reed has a parallel
career as a visual and multimedia artist. She initially trained
as a visual artist at the Academy for Fine Arts in Berlin, continuing
her post-graduate studies under the legendary Katarina Sieverding.
She has worked predominantly in drawing, video and animation. Her
work has been shown and performed in numerous galleries and institutions
including KunstWerke Berlin; Kunstraum Munich; Kunstverein Wolfsburg;
MAMA, Rotterdam, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam; Berlin
Volksbuhne and Galerie Berlin, Tokyo. She was a 2005 recipient of
a prestigious stipendium from the Berlin Senate.
As a musician and recording artist, Angie has just release her second
album "XYZ Frequency" on Chicks
On Speed Records and is currently touring with the multimedia
show from which the music of this concept album is drawn.
